Long Live the King

On Friday, August 28th, Chadwick Boseman passed away at the age of 43 after a 4-year battle with colon cancer. Honestly, I don’t know what I want to say or what I should say. Chadwick was an amazing actor who had so much more to share with us, & now he’s gone. We all have the right to be sad & mourn such a bright star, but I want us to also celebrate the legacy he created in such a short time. He had television roles as early as 2003, but his first feature film didn’t come along until 2008. In 12 years, he gave us 12 roles & 15 movies. In honor of his career & 5 of his roles, please start scrolling for beautiful art from 7 artists. Rest in Peace Chadwick Boseman. Wakanda Forever! 🖤

🏈 NOTE: This was a supporting role for Chadwick; he only makes an appearance once in the last 15 minutes of the movie. However, I wanted to include it because it was his first feature film, & there is a poignancy behind the true story of Floyd Little & Ernie Davis. The main character in The Express is Ernie Davis, portrayed by Rob Brown, who wore number 44 while playing for Syracuse. After being the first African American to win the Heisman trophy in 1961, he was drafted into the NFL by the Washington Redskins & traded to the Cleveland Browns. In 1962, he & coach Ben Schwartzwalder visited a young football player named Floyd Little to try and recruit him. Floyd told Ernie he would choose Syracuse, but he was actually was leaning toward either Army or Notre Dame. In 1963, Floyd received the news that Ernie had passed away at the age of 23 from leukemia. He was shocked & devastated & immediately thought of the promise he had made. He kept his word, went to Syracuse, & wore number 44 just like Ernie. He carved a legacy of his own at Syracuse & on the Denver Broncos. Most of that is portrayed or implied in the movie, but there are differences so I wanted to share the actual details with you. You can read the full story H E R E.
