When I tell you I had a hard time finalizing the images for this blog post, I mean it. It was actually painful making cuts from the lineup so please do me a favor & use the links I provided down below. You are missing out if you don’t! Without further adieu, today’s featured artist is Thai-born illustrator Gigi Thanawongrat. Right away you should notice that collaging is used to create each illustration. The blend of digital graphics & hand-drawn images is fascinating, a breath of fresh air. I can’t think of another current fashion illustrator I could compare Ms. Thanawongrat to. Similarities & comparison within the art world are by no means a bad thing, but the compliment speaks for itself. She is in a league of her own! I know I’ve already used Barbie as an adjective once this week, but I need to use it once again, not to describe facial features but rather the precise, slightly stiff posing. The models look like Barbie dolls playing dress-up with the most exotic wardrobe imaginable! Speaking of exotic, the last thing I want to mention is Gigi’s inspiration for the variety of colors & patterns in her work. Travel & different cultures give her the ideas she needs to create, especially the traditions and styles of indigenous peoples & tribes. Start scrolling!
