… a quote that sets the stage for today’s discussion. This is a topic that is near and dear to my heart as an artist and art blogger. I cannot stress enough how important it is to give credit when you use someone else’s art. I don’t care if it’s on a professional platform or social media. Give credit!! If you haven’t in the past, don’t freak out. You are not alone. I’ve made the mistake of sharing pictures and not citing a source. The important thing is that you start now. There are two ways that I give credit. I will either provide a web link to the source or use a website such as KnightCite.com to make a citation. I usually use citations for art work and links for gifs and quotes. Based on what I’ve learned from art school and blogging, I care because someone else cared. It takes you one minute or less to do a Google search and post an image you like. It took the artist seconds, minutes, & hours to bring a vision to life. It doesn’t even matter how long the creation process took; what matters is that someone was motivated enough to create. Respect their creativity!

I have one more important thing to add. If there is a note on social media or a website that requests you ask the artist’s permission before using their art, please respect their wishes. Don’t burn bridges before they are even built!
