In honor of New York Fashion Week, I am spotlighting fashion illustrators September 10–16. On September 17th, there will be a NYFW edition of “Best Dressed.” Enjoy!

– Aaron Favaloro –

Aaron’s characters typically have white skin and minimal or no facial features therefore the colorful apparel and accessories pop. Despite their long legs, the “models” appear to be shorter than the fashion illustration norm. The proportions make me feel proud to be “fun size” and remind me of the Bratz dolls I played with growing up.

– Anna Lazareva –

The animation of Anna’s work is eye-catching. The characters and scenery feel alive. I also love the graphic elements, the expert mix of coordinating colors and patterns.

– Birdy & Me/Kelly Smith –

The majority of Birdy & Me illustrations are black and white with splashes of pink in varying shades. I am not the biggest fan when it comes to the color pink, but I cannot help loving these image. My favorite element is the contrast between the prominent black and soft pink. Kelly’s style reminds me of Dior’s perfume ads.

– Dahee Kim/Soki Sock –

I love Dahee Kim’s unique style. Once you see it, you will never forget it. The fashion is created using wavy lines; it is left up to the viewers to mentally complete the look, much like unscrambling words. The characters have no facial features except lips therefore the focus is the colors and fashion.
