Minnesota Photographer Documents a Couple’s Trip to Florida to Adopt a Baby Girl

Who is the couple?? Who is the photographer?? Why is this story artistically significant?? Patience Padawans! You might have seen this story in the news a month ago. The couple is David and Sarah Olson; the baby girl is Tilly Pearl; and the photographer is Kristen Prosser, owner of Kristen Anne Photography. It isn’t unusual for photographers to document births, but the adoption process is not often photographed. That fact alone makes this series of images stand out. David and Sarah always wanted three children. They have two biological sons, Zakary and Levi, but Sarah’s “Mom Heart” didn’t feel complete until she and her husband started to seriously consider adoption. When it came time to travel to Florida and bring their new daughter home, the Olsons decided to bring their friend Kristen along to photograph every step of the journey (Peters, Stern). The results are mesmerizing. No, Tilly Pearl is not biologically an Olson, but one cannot deny God’s plan for her to become a part of the family based on the emotions in these photographs. Don’t just take my word for it! Take a look:

This photography job required capturing more than just outside appearance. In order for these images to be effective, people from all walks of life had to be able to feel what the Olsons were feeling. Success! I have never been a parent, and yet I find myself empathizing with David and Sarah. Kristen did an outstanding job capturing the emotions: excitement, anticipation, love only a mother and a father could possess, and happiness.
