The time has come to spotlight a sculptor. I don’t dislike this form of art but find myself drawn more to illustrations and paintings. For today’s post, I found a sculptor whose work genuinely excites and inspires me. I am spotlighting Shintaro Ohata, a Japanese painter and sculptor. He combines both his specialties to create 3-D versions of simple activities such as looking at one’s phone, petting a cat, and riding a bike. These moments become extraordinary not only through the unique artistic process but also the continuity of light. The color and depth of the light within the painting is captured in the sculpture as well, bringing both mediums together as one harmonious creation. If you have been paying close attention to my posts, you already know that lighting is extremely important to me in any form of art. The only explanation I can give is my personal belief that lighting can make or break an art piece. I do not think Mr. Ohata’s work would be successful if his attention to detail had failed in regard to the lighting. However, he did not fail, and that is why I think his work is breathtaking. I would love to see it in person!!
