I know I have been M.I.A., but my last post, “Joy to the World”, took TWO days to research and write. I finished at 3 am and was not exactly gung ho to post the next day. Additionally, I took some time off to spend the weekend with my family. I am still not fully recharged, but I am moving forward in order to keep my promise and spotlight ten holiday and/or winter related art pieces. Tonight you have the pleasure of looking at Gaye Frances Willard’s painting “Every Knee Shall Bow.” According to Willard’s website, the painting was inspired by the Bible verse Philippians 2:10: “…that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,…” I was never taught about Santa Claus nor have I ever had any interest, but the idea is not all bad. I think the movie “Polar Express” encapsulates the spirit that attracts me most to jolly old St. Nick. He gives kids hope, especially those with the most need. That may or may not be an exaggeration of reality, but in the movie it’s a real tearjerker. I love the message of this painting because it demonstrates the power of who Jesus was and is, even as a baby. It also shows a different side of Santa Claus; he is under God, a man just like any of us. He is on his knees, a sign of humility; he has taken his hat off, a sign of respect. You may or may not believe this or agree with it, but, at the very least, I hope you enjoy the simplicity and beauty of this painting.

“Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” -Philippians 2:9-11
